And this morning I woke up feeling like I had had a long visit with the author. Her personality is so embedded in the story,—the way she decorated her room, the way she speaks, her relationship to beauty, her relationship with Miriam. I was moved by the experience she had with Luc. It makes sense that it stayed with her—his confusing behavior and lack of ability to communicate, to say nothing of the scorn is a potent recipe for something to dig its way into one's core and stay there. Julie writes beautifully and this book is a page-turner. The setting, which is largely in Paris, is utterly enchanting. I highly recommend this book! To a background of glorious music one is drawn in to the story of Julie and Luc and also to the sights, sounds and smells of Paris. I read straight through 'til 1am.
