While she is sent to the Belmont County Club to work on the requested Italian wedding soup and the famous wedding cookies for the bride she overhears a disturbing argument between Dr. Natale, the bride's father and Elizabeth Merriman, the manager of the country club. When Elizabeth turns up dead the next morning, Dr. Natale is prime suspect so Victoria and her sister in law, Sofia also known as SIL begin to investigate. And uncover old secrets. I think some writers do woman a disservice by writing them as if they think like high schoolers when they're in their thirties. Aside from that the writing is good if a little uneven. How the story ends is kinda weak, but different. There was no embarrassing cliffhanger where the Villian who stabs the original victim suddenly decides to try to kill our hero by tying them up and setting a fire. That I enjoyed. The recipes sound delicious although I wish our hero would just be allowed to solve the crime without pretending to work in the restaurant. Also being in a small shore town most people who live there would recognize this mystery writer after a while. But I liked this book even though it's not perfect. Would buy another. Not a regular mystery genre fan, I bought the first book on a recommendation and found that I had to read it cover-to-cover in a day. Suffice it to say that I devoured this one equally as fast. Clever dialogue and observations, relatable characters and tight story construction. Keep the murders, romance and recipes coming Rosie Genova—you've turned me into a mystery reader!
